ABSTRACT

In a tertiary care hospital, a total of 185 individuals with thrombocytosis with a platelet count of more than 450,000/μl were studied prospectively for clinical significance and aetiology. The most prevalent causes of thrombocytosis were an infection. Reactive thrombocytosis (97.84%) was shown to be the most prevalent cause of an increased platelet counts in the current research whereas spurious thrombocytosis was found in (2.16%). In our research, we found no evidence of a significant influence of food patterns and antiplatelet medications on platelet count. Platelet count was shown to be higher in a greater percentage of male participants, as well as in patients with existing co-morbidities. The presence of a high platelet count during a routine blood test has medical and clinical implications.
